OpenStudy (pyxieyt):

Given a scale factor of 1/2, fine the coordinates for the dilation of the triangle with vertices at (0,0),(0,2) and(4,0) Can you guys explain this to me?

OpenStudy (wwb00):

Sure!

OpenStudy (wwb00):

First you have to multiply the first coordinate pair by the scale factor.

OpenStudy (wwb00):

ex. (1,3) x scale factor 2 is (2,6)

OpenStudy (wwb00):

Do you understand?

OpenStudy (wwb00):

if it were (3,-3) dilated with scale factor 3 the new coordinates would be (3x3, -3x3) which would become (9,-9)

OpenStudy (pyxieyt):

Oh i understand :D

OpenStudy (pyxieyt):

is it different with triangles?

OpenStudy (wwb00):

Same points

OpenStudy (wwb00):

same thing

OpenStudy (wwb00):

for (0,0) with scale factor 2 its still (0,0). For your (4,0) with scale factor 1/2 it would become (2,0)

OpenStudy (pyxieyt):

Thank you so much!!
