What's the role of enzymes in seed germination?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For seeds to germinate, they require energy. They attain this energy from food stores that they have in their cotyledons which is usually in the form of starch. However, starch is an extremely large and insoluble molecule that cannot be used as an immediate source of energy via respiration. Therefore starch must first be broken down into glucose using the enzyme amylase, which can then be respired to release energy for germination.
