which term describes a type of trait that is usually expressed only when an organism has 2 identical alleles for the trait? A. heterozygous <<<< B. dominant C. homozygous <<<< D. recessive im stuck between these 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Thadds2003

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

ok.......

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

The answer is B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx...i have one more

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the correct answer is recessive

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

Thats what i said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A recessive trait is only expressed when you have two identical copies of it, otherwise it is masked by the other trait

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

oops i acidentaly put b, its d, sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Thadds2003 u said B) Dominant

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

i just said that i acidentally put b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

a certain species of grasshopper can have red stripes, yellow stripes, or red and yellow stripes. An RR grasshopper has red stripes, an YY grasshoper has yellow stripes, and an RY grasshopper has red and yellow stripes. a grasshopper with red stripes mates with a grasshopper with yelow stripes. What ratio would you expect to see in the phenotypes of their offspring? A. 1 with red stripes: 2 with red and yellow stripes: 1 with yellow stripes B. all with yellow and red stripes C. all with red stripes D. 2 with red stripes: 2 with yellow stripes p.s. i changed my first answer (the first question) :) thx

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

ok..........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@fernanda1022

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

sounds like codominance to me

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

They display codominance. Incomplete dominance is similar but where they two alleles are blended, as if u were to have orange stripes. The other two are completely wrong.

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

can i get medal?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused....which would the answer be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If red is the dominant trait, then there are two possible answers (A and B). Because the red grasshopper can be RR or Rr, where R is the red gene and r is the yellow gene. The yellow grasshopper would then be rr Then the Punnet squares work out such that A is the correct choice if the red grasshopper has RR, and B is correct choice is the red grasshopper is Rr. But if red is not dominant over yellow (I think the term is codominant), then the correct answer is D, since red grasshopper would have to be RR and yellow would be rr, and all the offspring would be Rr. Since A and C can both be right if there is dominance, I would assume there is codominance and go with answer B

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

b

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

wow, just at the same time.

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

any more questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kewl thx guys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope that it for today

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ight bye

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

ok see ya.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what grade you're in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9th

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

me?

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

i in 7th grade

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i'm a sophomore

OpenStudy (thadds2003):

i feel very smart helping a 9th grader.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):
