Plot the points and look for the point that does not fall into the shade or does fall on the dashed segment. See attachment.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
D doesnt fall in the shaded area
Directrix (directrix):
Correct. (2, -1) is on the dashed segment. Points located there are not part of the inequality solution.

Where does the boundary line cut the x-axis?
Directrix (directrix):
I thought the x-intercept is 1 but now it appears to be slightly to the left of one. What do you think?
The line is falling so it has a negative slope. That fact eliminates 2 options.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so our two options are a and b
Directrix (directrix):
Right. Look at the graphs.
Red or Blue looks like the given graph.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes they do

Do you think it is the red?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes i believe so
Directrix (directrix):
I agree. The red cuts the x axis close to 1 as does the given graph.
The blue graph has x intercept somewhere near 6.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
agreed
OpenStudy (anonymous):
any ideas on the second question?
