Charlotte dusted off her shoe and stood up to see Mrs. Germane above her. “Did you hear me when I gave you your score?” Looking at the floor, Charlotte mumbled, “Yes.” The teacher lifted Charlotte’s chin so she could look into the child’s eyes and asked, “Why?” Charlotte answered easily, “She needs it more. Please, don’t change the bulletin board.” The teacher stared at the girl in awe. Suddenly, Mrs. Germane hugged her. Charlotte returned to her seat and wondered why her teacher was wiping tears away from her eyes. (paragraph 6)
