the following best explains the difference between an absolute monarchy and a republic?

An absolute monarchy is ruled by a royal family with absolute power if I recall exactly. A republic is more like what the United States is. Definitions are here; :) "Absolute monarchy or absolutism is a monarchical form of government in which the monarch has absolute power among his or her people. An absolute monarch wields unrestricted political power over the sovereign state and its people." Republic. "A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch."
