OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Which answer is a solution to the inequality? 3x + y > -8 A. (-3, 0) B. (-2, -1) C. (0, -10) D. (2, -16)

OpenStudy (cathyangs):

If you know how inequalities work, you can simply test each of the ordered pairs, using the x-value in place of x and the y-value in place of y. See which one simplifies the left side to be greater than (> than) -8. Does this make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What he said is right. For instance 3(-3)+0> -8 -9>-8 which is false. Plug in the rest like that to get your answer :)

OpenStudy (cheesecakekitten):

Simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In (-3, 0) -3=X and 0=Y. The reason the are called ordered pairs is because they are in order (x, y). Work through with each of the four possible answers and it's easy from there. :)
