"The fact that the moon's gravitational pull affects ocean tides is well known. However, what scientists did not know is that the Earth's gravity has a similar tug to the satellite."

And this is what I thought up so far:

affects satellites, much in the same way that moon's gravitational pull affects ocean tides.
