This function will factor into the form
(x + a)(x + b)
where a times b = + 24
and a + b = -10
OpenStudy (welshfella):
both answers given are incorrect

oh D;
OpenStudy (hhmorris98):
No you factor it out to (x-a)(x-b) because you are looking for a and b to add to -10 and to do so they must be negative.
OpenStudy (welshfella):
( x - 4)( x - 6) = 0
so x - 4 = 0 or x - 6 = 0
x = 4 or 6
OpenStudy (welshfella):
Sorry not D
ITS C
OpenStudy (moli007):
so they dont turn negative?

the right answer is c
OpenStudy (welshfella):
the factors contain negatives but the roots are positive
because
x - 4 = 0 or x - 6 = 0
solving these 2 equations gives you 4 and 6
OpenStudy (hhmorris98):
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=4 or x=6
OpenStudy (hhmorris98):
postive 4 and postitive 6 don't make negative 10

@hhmorris98 - the factoring is correct
but the roots are not -4 or -6
OpenStudy (hhmorris98):
Okay I see now. Thank you sorry for that.
OpenStudy (moli007):
thank you for helping everyone :)
