Which graph is the line y=-1/5x-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TheSmartOne could you help?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Hi there, I'll try to help you! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay Thank You!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

so does your line have a positive slope or a negative slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Negative?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

correct, so which answer choices show a positive slope? those that show a positive slope, we can eliminate them :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C and D?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

well, actually, it seems like they all have negative slopes so we can't eliminate any of them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh lol obviously... I thought it was B

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

ok, since the equation is in the from y=mx +b plug in x = 0 and let's solve for y. That will tell us the y-intercept. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im confused? would we have to divide

OpenStudy (radar):

Both B and D have a Y intercept of -1, they both have negative slopes.......but only 1 is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So B and D aren't correct?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

One of them is correct. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it was B?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

B is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you guys both! Could you help with one more?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

sure, post another question :)
