As in the time signature? If that's the case, when you have a song in 3/4 time then the measures will each have 3 beats and the 1/4 note gets the beat.

Remember that when looking at a time signature that the top number is how many notes go in a measure and the bottom is which note gets the beat. So in 4/4 the measure has 4 quarter notes. In 6/8 each measure has 6 eighth notes. So in 3/4 each measure has 3 quarter notes.
