I know that they gained most of their money by specifically overseas trading making it seem like the answer is A

Yeah it is A because B is not correct the Europeans were not introduced to mercantilist policies used by wealthy American empires until 1600-1700s and the Age of Exploration was the 15th century to the 17th (1400-1600)
