OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've fallen beast-like in a snare: Light, people, freedom, somewhere bide: But at my back I hear the chase And there is no escape outside. Darkest wood and lakeside shore, Gaunt trunk of a leveled tree, My way is cut off on all sides: Let what may, come; all's one to me. Is there some ill I have committed? Am I a murder, miscreant? For I have made the whole world weep Over the beauty of my land But even at the very grave I trust the time shall come to be When over malice, over wrong, The good will win its victory.

@misssunshinexxoxo

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

ok bck

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

I recommend checking these links out, http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/literature/laureates/1958/pasternak-bio.html http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/zhivago/ei_pasternak.html Sum it up and paraphrase. I haven't read the unit, just choose a name, research it and do your best with this.

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

You know what censorship means? :P

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

Use William Shakespeare for that last one because he is like a name sake in English European writers. http://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i wasn't expecting anyone who hasn't or isn't currently taking the class to get the second one lol i just thought someone from connexus might recognize it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yes i do know what censorship means haha

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

"After Joseph Stalin was acclaimed as leader of the CPSU in 1929, Pasternak became further disillusioned with the Party's tightening censorship of literature. Still unwilling to conform, Pasternak remained a close friend of Anna Akhmatova and Osip Mandelstam. Mandelstam recited his searing indictment of Stalin, the "Stalin Epigram," to Pasternak soon after its composition in late April 1934. After listening, Pasternak told Mandelstam: I didn't hear this, you didn't recite it to me, because, you know, very strange and terrible things are happening now: they've begun to pick people up. I'm afraid the walls have ears and perhaps even these benches on the boulevard here may be able to listen and tell tales. So let's make out that I heard nothing.[15]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Pasternak

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

Okay, how do you think living under censorship affected him?

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

I'd take that top part, cite that for censorship with your explanation on the bottom. Then you should be good to go! :)

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

To me it seems like he's trapped...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks you guys! so for the first one, could i say that he felt as if he had been caught in a trap and he wasn't sure how to escape from it and that he was not willing to conform to those ways?? what else should i add?

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

Wow! Sounds good :D

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

But then at the lst part of the poem "But even at the very grave I trust the time shall come to be When over malice, over wrong, The good will win its victory." what do you think it mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think he's trying to say that eventually censorship won't be thing? or that it won't effect him? im not 100% sure

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

I agree with your first answer :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay cool! i'll add that in! thanks you guys for all the help

OpenStudy (shiburinga):

Welcome :P
