Can you tell me about dyslipidemia?
So dyslipidemia is an abnormally high amount of lipids or fats in the blood. This causes an increased level of cholesterol. Most of it is caused by a mutation in the gene sequence which does not allow the body to clear the lipids as easily which causes them to build up over time but it can also be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. Is there anything else you need to know about it?
Abnormally elevated cholesterol or fats (lipids) in the blood.
Dys- means abnormal. Then there's the word lipid. The suffix -emia is associated with blood, so Dyslipidemia means the abnormal amount of lipid in the blood. ^_^
"Dyslipidemia is the product of suboptimal diet, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, as well as abnormalities in metabolism and genetic background. It is characterized by abnormalities in serum levels of a variety of lipoproteins." (Toth and Cannon, 2010)
