Titles can be bought with smartcents, so when you buy a title for 50 smartcents, that will be deducted from your total smartcent balance.

Every time you get a medal, you'll be awarded a SmartCent. Also, the website keeps track of the sections you got those medals in. When you reach certain milestones in how many medals (not SmartCents) you've gotten in a section, you'll unlock the ability to get new titles in that section. You can then use your SmartCents to purchase the titles for yourself. This removes your SmarCents, but not your medal count.

SmartCents is a way to recognize those experts and teachers in the area of their expertise. When you receive a medal, you will now receive an equivalent number of SmartCents. When you get enough medals in a certain group, you can unlock Titles with your SmartCents! :)

Now you can display your intellectual triumphs right by your name and on your profile. The titles you choose to unlock will speak about your expertise, your achievements, and your reputation here on OpenStudy. People will be more inclined to listen to you and seek out your calculus help if you are “Owlfred Smith, Olympic Mathlete” than if you are just Owlfred Smith.

Take the three titles in Math. The easiest is the green level, The Human Calculator. You can qualify for this title, if you have just 50 medals in Math. Once you have qualified, you can unlock the title if you have 50 SmartCents. When you unlock this title, 50 SmartCents will be subtracted from your account. The medals will stay with you.

If you lose your medals, your SmartCents will also be debited. But not to worry, you can always go gain more medals by helping more OpenStudiers.

How do you get one of these for yourself?
Go to your user profile. Note the new Trophy Room icon. Go to check out your medal tally. Click on Unlock titles to see the available titles and which ones you qualify for.
Click on Unlock Titles. You’ll see a list of Groups and titles, some of which you may be able to unlock! Go ahead and try it!
Your new title will come up in the bar and should show up next to your name! If you have several levels of titles for that group, then the highest level title should show up. If you are a Renaissance person and are awesome in many Study Groups, hey, the most relevant title will show up of course. When in Math, you are a Mathlete, and when in History, you just became an Encyclopedia for Hire.
And yes, some titles are hard to get, and some almost impossible! Almost.

I try to answer questions the best I can (can even help people that are in way higher grades) and my goel is to get 1k questions in less than 2 months xP and I have about 100 lol

that's a good starting point. I used to make goals myself to reach 90 SS. I think it was for every 100-130 questions answered in Math, my SS score goes up to 1
