polynomial function question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and, what is your question?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

the screenshot has the question...I think :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes the question is in the screen shot

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the screenshot has instructions ... use synthetic division. so what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do they mean by fully factored form

OpenStudy (amistre64):

factored form is like: k(x-a)(x-b)(x-c) where a,b,c are the roots of the function, and k is some scalar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for part b what do they mean when they say define multiplicity and behavior

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm, definitions which should be defined in your material. multiplicity; how many times a root is used. behaviour ... prolly end behaviour?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well yeah, end behaviour :) most of those things in b are easily obtained from the graph.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you recall how to work synthetic div?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup i have notes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then i can verify your factored form if need be

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and i may have enough smarts about me to verify your thoughts on the other part too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know how to factored form

OpenStudy (amistre64):

from the graph, can you tell me what one of the zeros of the function will be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then we can reduce the cubic function to a quadratic, by dividing it by x+2; or as the instructions suggest, by working the synthetic division of it. |dw:1448591380081:dw|
