OpenStudy (tumblewolf):

Can I get some help? It wants me to use descending powers of X and I'm getting confused Add: x 5 - 4x 4 + 7x 3 + 8, 9x 3 + 7x 2 - 10, and -2x 5 + 7x 4 - 3x + 8.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Not wanting to be picky: I must nevertheless point out that "x 5" is quite ambiguous. Do you mean 5 times x, or do you mean x to the fifth power (x^5)? Suggest that you use the Draw utility (below), or, better yet, the Equation utility, to present expressions such as these properly.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

or use " ^ " for exponentiation: x 5 - 4x 4 + 7x 3 + 8 should be x^5 -4x^4+7x^3 + 8.
