QUICK QUESTION PLEASE HELP: If the standard deviation increases, what else increases? Mode, Mean, Variance or Median?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say mean am I right?

Directrix (directrix):

The standard deviation is the square root of the variance. If the standard deviation increases, would the variance increase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would increase I suppose

Directrix (directrix):

>>I would say mean am I right? I do not think so. The standard deviation is a measure of dispersion. The mean is a measure of central tendency.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I thought if the standard deviation was too high it would create extremes and the mean would not be resistant. So I see now the variance would increase if the standard dev increases

Directrix (directrix):

I agree.
