find the greatest common factor of the following monomials| 40c^4 32c^3

OpenStudy (andrewishere):

what is c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it isnt multiple choice

OpenStudy (andrewishere):

lol no i meant in the problem. Like is it 40c and 32c to the exponent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (andrewishere):

ok so gcf is greatest common factor. I'm guessing they want the gcf of 40 and 32. So start by plugging in numbers that can can go into both 40 and 32. We know the number must be even since both 40 and 32 are even, so... 2-works 4-works 6-does not work 8-works 10-does not work for 32 12-does not work 14-does not work 16-does not work for 40 (this is half of 32, so no other numbers will go into 40 that will also work for 32) So if we look at the lost, find the greatest number that says "works" and that is the GCF.

OpenStudy (andrewishere):

I hope this helped :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks i got it right

OpenStudy (andrewishere):

OpenStudy (andrewishere):
