Helppp Solve for x: −5|x + 1| = 10 x = 0 x = −3 and x = 1 x = −1 and x = 3 No solution

OpenStudy (hhmorris98):

No Solution. need an explanation of why?

OpenStudy (bbypanda16):

Yes please @hhmorris98

OpenStudy (hhmorris98):

So you can plug in the values given to you in the answers if you want and see if any of them match the value you are looking for. However, If you have absolute value brackets you will always have a positive number inside the brackets and since you are multiplying that by a negative number you will always get a negative number in return which means that no number could make a positive 10. Does that help?

OpenStudy (bbypanda16):

It does! Thank you sooo muchh!
