under what circumstance can the general trend of disorder in the universe be reversed?
go back in time?!
yeah, because all the research I have found states that there is absolutely no evidence that it can be reversed. I think this may be a trick question.
well, there is an interesting argument about how human activity is anti-entropic. because we - and this really is very hand wavey - organise and structure and build and bring "order" to the world. but i think that the net result of all that activity is more "disorder", in terms, say, of all the waste that is produced. if it's the universe, as opposed to some closed system, i'd say that you are stuffed. randomness prevails. but i'm no expert, just a very interested lay person.
My response to this question , There is not yet any sufficient data to support the reversal of entropy. With the theory that our universe is closed, and nothing escapes. The scattered energy could be floating around, occasionally meeting, and possibly bouncing off the borders of the universe. Eventually, which would be in an unimaginable amount of time, the particles of energy could meet again in sufficient numbers to be worth something. But again the time frame on this is unimaginable.
