OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help :(

OpenStudy (anaise):

The equation is 125 - 30%

OpenStudy (anaise):

wait 100- ( 125 - 30%)

OpenStudy (anaise):

125- 30% is 87$ and 50 cents

OpenStudy (anaise):

I realize how much I love math, while that is irrelevant, yes garbriel has enough money

OpenStudy (anaise):

Do you know the missing variable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am confused...

OpenStudy (anaise):

with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is 125 - 30% = 87.50? using a calculator the answer is 1247/10 or 124.7

OpenStudy (anaise):

yOUR equation is 100 - ( 125 - 30%) If i AM CORRECT u should know th

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

You converted 30% into .3, and then into 3/10 didnʻt you?

OpenStudy (anaise):

ugh

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

@__yasmeen__

OpenStudy (anaise):

probs

OpenStudy (anaise):

sweetie would a real life sale., be 30& off and

OpenStudy (anaise):

take away 30 cents?

OpenStudy (anaise):

it's like saying 50% off of 100 is 50, which is correct. Your calculator might say 99.5

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

30 cents is a lot of money

OpenStudy (anaise):

uh sure.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand what you mean but 50% of 100 is 100 divided by 2. what is are we dividing by when we are taking 30% off? get what i mean?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Senpai Anaise teach c;

OpenStudy (anaise):

there is no dividing sweetie

OpenStudy (anaise):

you subtract

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

@__yasmeen__ I like how she is calling us sweetie

OpenStudy (anaise):

ignore him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am so fricking confused. i love math but sometime it is so frustrating it makes me want to kill myself

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

~(˘▾˘~) SIng the Happy Song ☜(⌒▽⌒)☞

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get a 50 when you take away 50% off a 100. there has to be an equation

OpenStudy (anaise):

lol subtract 50

OpenStudy (anaise):

50% off of anything is half

OpenStudy (anaise):

to clear confusion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in my problem i have to subtract 30?

OpenStudy (anaise):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kill me

OpenStudy (anaise):

uh

OpenStudy (anaise):

it's 87.5 lol.....................

OpenStudy (anaise):

...............

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125 - 30 = 95

OpenStudy (anaise):

wait

OpenStudy (anaise):

huh im wrong........

OpenStudy (anaise):

ugh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dude i need to understand too. i am not just going to enter the answer

OpenStudy (anaise):

YOUR ANSWER IS 87.5

OpenStudy (anaise):

i'll calculate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure, show me how you do it, please.

OpenStudy (anaise):

http://prntscr.com/98tqnw

OpenStudy (anaise):

wait no, i don't usually...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. i was using this algebra calculator i found online and the answer was 124.7 so it confused me a bit but thank you for taking the time on explaining it

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Do you know how it works though?

OpenStudy (anaise):

no problem and do you?

OpenStudy (anaise):

it's annoying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is.

OpenStudy (anaise):

the answer was 4x

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

125 - 30% 30% = .3 In order to subtract 30% from 125, we can just multiple 125 by .7 If you take 30% away from the full amount, 125, we are left with the 70% 70% = .7 So, think of it as since we subtracted 30% of 125, what is 70% of 125? From there, we just do .7 x 125 of means multiply ;p

OpenStudy (anaise):

^ credit stealer

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

I medal yew c;

OpenStudy (anaise):

likewise

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did the 20% come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean 70%

OpenStudy (anaise):

30% + 70% is the WHOLE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhhh

OpenStudy (anaise):

percentages are different

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

125 - 30% We basically think of it as 125 = 100% We subtracted 30% so what is 70% of 125? So we multiply .7 by 125 To figure out what is 70% of 125

OpenStudy (anaise):

the variable is the answer

OpenStudy (anaise):

uh...right?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

If you ever forget, just think, what is 70% of 125 of means to multiply and just think of it was an equations w(what is) = .7 x 125

OpenStudy (anaise):

get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES. thank you guys so much!

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

No problem :0
