Ok we are given 2 equations 5x+4y=8 x-2y=10 Lets isolate the x in equation 2 since its already a variable by itself add 2y to both sides you get x=2y+10 Now we have the equations we can use 5x+4y=8 x=2y+10 Plug equation 2 into equation 1 since the x value is given 5(2y+10)+4y=8 solve for y
