Suppose you have a $5-off coupon at a fabric store. You buy fabric that costs $7.50 per yard. Write an equation that models the total amount of money y you pay if you buy x yards of fabric. Justify your answer.

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

So the 5$ off coupon is going to be off of the final cost. Which means it'll be at the end. It also means that we need parentheses. y = (7.5x) - 5 Reasoning - 7.5 is what you're paying per yard. Since we don't know how much you're going to buy, you can assume that it's x. As mentioned earlier, the coupon is off of the final price, so it goes at the end.

Is that all?
