What is menstruation, and how is the process triggered during each "monthly" cycle?

OpenStudy (fire.hot_is_me):

dude bad question for this place im sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that really a question because I don't wanna know but menstruation sucks lol but I do know it is the shedding of the uterus's lining like the placenta a baby would use if an egg was fertilized and I don't know how it is caused but if i were to guess it would be because the egg is no longer useable and a new egg needs a new healthy placenta so a woman's body has to shed the old one.
