mA = outer arc - inner arc
they tell you mA  and the outer arc and they want you to find x (the inner arc)

but I left out a divide by 2, the equation is 
mA = (outer arc - inner arc)/2
so in this problem
14 = (112 - x)/2
or after multiplying both sides by 2
28= 112 - x
or
x= 112-28

angle y is 1/2 of the arc DC
you first find arc DC using
DC + x +112 is the whole circle = 360
so 
DC+84+112 = 360
once you get DC, divide by 2 to get angle y
