Rewrite the equation so that you have y alone on one side Set y to 0, and solve for x
-2x+0.5y=18 (multiple everything by 2) -4x + y = 36 (move x over to the over side) y = 36 + 4x (set y to 0) 0 = 36 + 4x (find out what times 4 gives you -36) x= -9
