Or perhaps a more appropriate label in this case,
'philosophical writing piece'.

'In All Honesty'

Ah, the pain
The pain that the stark truth brings
When you realize things weren't as they seemed.
When you finally realize
That in all honesty, the lies were truth
And the truth was all a lie.

And when you realize
That mirror of a person you thought you gazed into
Was actually a window
Showing the dark side of yourself
That deceptive, conniving side you tried to hide.
But finally, it found a way out
In albeit a different form
It was one and the same.

And you had conned yourself into believing
That this person that possesed the dark shadow of yourself
That shadow from which you had been hiding from
Could actually be the one person you had been searching for.
Perhaps it was the way they understood your imperfections
And how they acknowledged theirs.
Perhaps it was because you always keep an open mind
And give the benefit of the doubt.

Or, more likely, because you had let that shadow
That same darkness inside yourself
Convince you to make that reckless plunge
Jump at the thrill of an uncertain relationship
And pour out your heart with abandon.
Perhaps that is why, more than anything
You hate yourself
You hate the hypocrisy of your thoughts to your actions
Your beliefs to your motives
And, most of all, how you can convince yourself of anything

The greatest con master
Conned by his own mind
