So I'm doing my home work and I can't figure out these two problems they are find the area of shaded region the base is 8ft the height is 6ft but then there is a square in the middle and it says base for square 3ft and height for square 3ft what do I do

These two triangles are equal to each other. So you have calculate the shaded area (with the little square)\[8ft*6ft=48ft^2\] So now you need to subtract the little square: \[3ft*3ft=9ft^2\] So the shaded area is: \[48ft^2-9ft^2=?\]
