The rectangular piece of property measures 10 mi by 4 mi. Find an equation for the ellipse if the path is to touch the center of the property line on all 4 sides.

If you're looking for the area of the ellipse: A=πab You can set x for 1 side of the plot and y for the adjacent side A= π(x/2)(y/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A= π(x/2)(y/2) I'm just going to set x = 4 y = 10 A = π(2)(5) = π10 = 31.42 mi^2

this is what i put ---> standard for for horizontal major axis: * (x-h)^2 / a^2 + (y-k)^2 / b^2 = 1 center = (0,0) length of horizontal major axis: 10 = 2a a = 5 a^2 = 25 length of minor axis: 4 = 2b b = 2 b^2 = 4 equation: * x^2 / 25 + y^2 / 4 = 1

Ah...completely misunderstood the question. Gimme a sec with the correct equation (x2/A2) + (y2/B2) = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

What you did looks right to me. Sorry for the hold up

its okay, thank you so much for your help though :-)
