Solve x2 + 8x = 24.

OpenStudy (madmerc):

@centella80 the choices are −4 ± 2square root 2 −4 ± 2square root 10 −4 ± 2square root 5 −4 ± 2square root 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well actually centella, this answer has two answers, not just one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It seems to me that they want you to use the quadratic formula. Do you know what that is?

OpenStudy (madmerc):

not really. i missed a lot and have a bunch of stuff due that i didn't learn i have to blast through all of it or i'm gonna fail. @LegendarySadist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait is the x2 supose to be x to the power of 2 if so woooops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically how the quadratic formula works is that for \[\large \sf ax^{2}+bx+c=0\],\[\large \sf x=\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}}{2a}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how to solve your question is this: 1. Get the 24 over to the left side. 2. Identify what the a, b, and c are in terms of the formula. 3. Enter a, b, and c into the quadratic formula. 4. Solve until you have the answer you are looking for.

OpenStudy (madmerc):

is it -4 pm 2 sqrt 10 @LegendarySadist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I believe that is correct

OpenStudy (madmerc):

thanks! @LegendarySadist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem :)
