|dw:1449039761330:dw| this is vertical line x=1 means :points such that x=1 and y=arbitrary

so the vertical will be 1 and horizontal will be 4

OpenStudy (amoodarya):

x=1 , y=4 vertical line is in form of x=a horizontal line is in form of y=b

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

The reason why you write x = 1 for your answer to the equation of a vertical line is that x can only be replaced by the number 1 to make the equation x = 1 the true statement: 1 = 1. On the other hand, the y value maybe replaced by any number denoted by "y." The answer can now be abbreviated by the ordered pair ( 1 , y ) for any point on the vertical line satisfying the equation: x = 1.

Exactly the same reasoning would be used for y = 4, or ( x , 4 ) for the horizontal line. :-)
