Which relationship is always true for the angles r, x, y, and z of triangle ABC?
x + z = y
180 degrees − x = r
x + y + z = 180 degrees
x + y + z = 90 degrees
OpenStudy (baru):
sum of angles in a triangle = ?

it's what you'll need to solve the question you posted
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
straight line is 90?
OpenStudy (baru):
no
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
180 :D
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
it should all equal 180 :)

ok,
so which of the angles x,y,z,r lie on a straight line?
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
x?

|dw:1449067129153:dw|
OpenStudy (baru):
L and M are angles that lie on a straight line
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
ok

similarly, there are angles lying on a straight line in your figure. can you recognize them?
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
x and r lie on a straight line
OpenStudy (baru):
exactly!! :D
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
so its b
OpenStudy (baru):
why do you say its b?

i dont know i think it just makes sense somehow but dont know why :(
OpenStudy (baru):
angles on a straight line add up to 180
so
x+r=180
do you understand this?
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
ohhhhhhh yeah i do
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
so its c because x+y+z=90 so then with the addition of r you get 180
OpenStudy (baru):
ok now we do a little algebra
look at option b
180 - x= r

add x to both sides of the equation, what do you get?
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
90?
OpenStudy (baru):
add 'x' to both sides
OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):
oh 180
OpenStudy (baru):
:/ you haven't understood algebra

i still say it is c

I wish I could say "go with your gut feeling"
but math dosen't work this way. you will have to pay attention and learn algebra at some point. its not very hard, good luck :)
