WILL FAN AND MEDAL!!!! I need help can someone please help explain how they get this answer? Write and equation for the line that is parallel to the given line and passes through the given point. y=2x+4;(3,8) A.y=2x+2 B.y=2x+6 C.y=-2x+6 D. y+-1/2x+2 I know the correct answers A because I got it wrong on a test and it is telling me the right answer and now have to explain how to get the right answer. Can somebody help me explain how to step-by-step get this answer?
i can help you
hmm
ok, do you know how to recognize if two lines are paralell?
@HannahC234
eh sorta doesn't the slopes have to be the same?
@baru
yes, exactly
do you know which term in the equations represent slope?
2x+4?
no, if you have an equation, for example y= 10x +7 what is the slope of this equation?
10? maybe I have no idea.
yes, what you have to do is simple compare it to the standard form of a line, which is y= mx + c m is slope
oh okay thank you!!!
@HannahC234
following?
yes thank you!
so slope =2 only options A and B have slope =2
remember, to find slope, you have to bring the equation to the standard form y = mx + c
choosing between A and B is a simple matter of substituting the point (3,8) into the equation. which ever option gives you left side of the equation= right side, is the correct answer
Thank you so much!!!!
sure :)
