What's the difference between a metaphor and a simile?

A simile is a comparison using like or as, where a metaphor is a comparison without using it.

OpenStudy (avaobri):

So for example, the flower was as yellow AS the sun. That would be a simile.

OpenStudy (avaobri):

The flower was the sun's bright yellow color. That would be a metaphor.
