Amber's teacher asked her to explain the division problem –27 ÷ 3. Which choice gives the correct explanation? A) 3 groups of 9 negatives B) 3 groups of 9 positives C) 9 groups of 3 negatives D) 9 groups of 3 positives 4) Brenda has written a division problem in which -32 is divided into 2 groups of 16 negatives. Which problem did she write? A) 2 ÷ -32 B) -16 ÷ -32 C) -32 ÷ -16 D) -32 ÷ 2
Which answer choice gives the correct explanation for this problem? -35 ÷ -7 A) 5 groups of 7 positives B) 5 groups of 7 negatives C) 7 groups of 5 positives D) 7 groups of 5 negatives
I think for problem 1 it would be A. Why? Because when you divide -27 by 3 you get -9, so... I would believe that would conclude if you were to reverse the problem, where you multiply -9 by 3 that would be -9 - 9 - 9 = -27. So... for the others, what do you think?
what about the other two
like give me some tips
Okay, for problem 4): -32 is divided into 2 groups of -16. As I explained with the first one: -27 / 3 = -9 (So your dividend which is '3' is your group amount, -9 is the number you're working with, like the number that is being 'grouped', to get you the '3 groups of -9'. And -27 is just a number you are working with.) Do you get that? So...: If '2' is your groups, -16 is the number being grouped, and -32 is just a number you are working with, what does that mean?
