OpenStudy (anonymous):

well what is a gamete?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its a sex cell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct! So do you know the two different kinds of sex cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are two kinds: male and female! Females make an ovum and males make sperm. The process by which both are formed is called meiosis. This is in contrast to mitosis which is how somatic cells are formed. The huge difference between the two is that mitosis results in a cells that has a diploid amount of DNA while meiosis results in haploid cells.
