5x-9y=-42 3x+8y=68 Eliminate
which variable do you want to eliminate?
Yeah
which variable do you want to eliminate? the answer is x or y (not yes or no) which do you want to eliminate ?
sorry i don't care what one eliminated, i just need both x and y
In that case I would first pick x because it has smaller numbers in front of it. the top equation has 5x and the bottom equation has 3x we want the least common multiple of 3 and 5 (the same problem as when adding fractions with a denominator of 3 and 5... what is a good common denominator? ) any idea ?
15
yes, that means if we make the number in front of the x's 15 we can get rid of x in other words, multiply the top equation by 3 (that means every term and both sides) and the bottom equation by -5 (I want to use -5 so we get -15x) can you do that ? just write down 3* top equation and -5 times bottom equation what do you get ?
actually gtg thanks for the help
