OpenStudy (danjs):

standard linear form a*x + b*y = c what did you do so far

OpenStudy (gokuporter):

A?@DanJS

OpenStudy (gokuporter):

@DanJS

OpenStudy (danjs):

distribute the left side first -2x + 2y = 3x + 5 re-arrange to the standard form

OpenStudy (danjs):

5x - 2y = -5

OpenStudy (danjs):

oh, i missed the 6 in the very front

OpenStudy (danjs):

6 - 2x + 2y = 3x + 5 5x - 2y = 1

OpenStudy (gokuporter):

So I'm correct?

OpenStudy (danjs):

yep

OpenStudy (gokuporter):

Are you supposed to subtract it from both sides?

OpenStudy (danjs):

yeah, whatever you do on one side, you have to do the same on the other, to keep the equation the same

OpenStudy (danjs):

6 - 2x + 2y = 3x + 5 [add 2x to both sides] 6 - 2x + 2x + 2y = 3x + 2x + 5

OpenStudy (danjs):

6 + 2y = 5x + 5

OpenStudy (danjs):

subtract 2y from both sides, 6 = 5x - 2y + 5 , take away 5 both sides 1 = 5x - 2y

OpenStudy (gokuporter):

Ok thanks :)

OpenStudy (danjs):

welcome
