President Andrew Johnson’s proposal for reconstruction included a requirement that all states _____. A) allow African Americans to vote B) do away with black codes C) give civil rights to African Americans D) pass the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

what do you think?

OpenStudy (salemlover352):

I think it's C or A

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

ok let me look at my notes real quick

OpenStudy (salemlover352):

Nvm. Johnson believed the Southern states should decide the course that was best for them. He also felt that African-Americans were unable to manage their own lives. He certainly did not think that African-Americans deserved to vote. At one point in 1866 he told a group of blacks visiting the White House that they should emigrate to another country. This rules out A

OpenStudy (salemlover352):

Okay

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

im kinda thinking b but i just dont know what about you?

OpenStudy (salemlover352):

I'm thinking D He also gave amnesty and pardon. He returned all property, except, of course, their slaves, to former Confederates who pledged loyalty to the Union and agreed to support the 13th Amendment. Confederate officials and owners of large taxable estates were required to apply individually for a Presidential pardon. Many former Confederate leaders were soon returned to power. And some even sought to regain their Congressional seniority.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think that is correct also

OpenStudy (gigi1103):

k that makes sense good job!

OpenStudy (salemlover352):

Thanks! You too!!
