check my essay answer for anatomy? Question: A patient suffers damage to the epidermal layer of his skin. Identify at least two precautionary measures he would have to take to protect himself. Explain in detail why these precautions are necessary given the layer of skin involved.
My answer: This patient would have to heavily protect himself from the outside world. He would need to cover nearly every inch of his body in multiple layers. He'd probably have to take a certain medication to gain the vitamins from the sun back because he will lose them because he cannot expose his body to the sun anymore. He would probably become very pale as well, without the sun and without the pigment melanin from the epidermal layer of skin. He might have to use a special ointment or treatment on his skin as well. He could also lose one of the ways of maintaining his internal body temperature and homeostasis within the body. The epidermal layer of his skin carries the aforementioned pigment named melanin. Melanin is a skin-darkening pigment, which is why he'd become very pale without it. Melanin is also what protects our bodies and our nuclear DNA from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Merkel cells, which are also found within the epidermal layer, would no longer be available. These cells would traditionally allow for the body to sense what its outside environment is and how to respond to it. This means maintaining and controlling our body temperature, among other things.
