OpenStudy (bloodydiamond):

2. Find the equation of a parabola with axis parallel to 0y and passing through (1, 9), (-2, 9), (-1, 1).

OpenStudy (alekos):

the general form of this equation will be y = ax^2 + bx + c so, all we need to do is substitute each point in this and form three new equations in terms of a, b & c, after which we use simultaneous equations to solve the co-efficients.

OpenStudy (alekos):

give it a try and see what happens

OpenStudy (bloodydiamond):

Thank you

OpenStudy (bloodydiamond):

So I should make 3 equations?

OpenStudy (alekos):

yes, that's right. 3 equations with 3 unknowns will allow you to solve a,b and c
