how do i determine whether a sequence is an arithmetic sequence?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

In an arithmetic sequence there is a common difference. In a geometric sequence there is a common ratio. In an arithmetic sequence, the difference between a number and the previous number is the same for any two consecutive numbers. In a geometric sequence, the ratio of a number to the previous number is the same for any two consecutive numbers.
