Is C the right answer?? Find all solutions in the interval [0, 2π). tan x + sec x = 1 A x = pi/4 B x = 0 C x = 5pi/4 D No solution

@hartnn help please

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why do you think C is or is not correct? Show your work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tangent by definiton is secant by definition is 1/cos x you have sin x/cosx +1/cos x = 1 If you multiply everything by cos x, you get sin x +1 = cos x Now I can see the answer from this equality right away, but I will leave it for you to figure it out.

I dont understand??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which part did you not understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how you see the answer from that equality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about the maximum value that a sine and a cosine can aquire. Can cosine be more than 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no! range of sine and cosine is [-1,1]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it x = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, You are correct, it is 0 in this case. The fully correct answer would be 2*pi*n, where n is an integer, but in this case, only 0 fits to your interval.

thank you very much!
