Okay, so how do you not make an egg from breaking it when you drop it from 17 ft??????? I mean it has no protection and the box/cup/egg-catcher has to be small and light!!!!! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!?!? I came up with a few but it's either big or it's the lightest!!!!! I need both but how?!? Someone please help me understand this or i AM GOING TO GO CRAZY!!! And no this isn't hw or for a test!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE!!!! Gah!
So you're supposed to find a way to catch it? If the thing catching it has to be small + light, how about a stack of styrofoam cups with a cotton ball in between each to create some leeway and bounce? You should try looking at these responses to a similar question (response #2 in particular): https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/device-that-catches-an-egg.383668/
I tried that but it's big not little in size but is light in weight.
I was thinking off a bounce house kind off idea but very small but the thing i am worried about is, when i drop it from17 ft, won't the egg miss the target?
That could work.. Kind of like a trampoline-type-thing, or a sheet to catch it?
Yeah but what about the egg falling INTO it?
Into? What do you mean?
The egg ( with no covering) HAS to fall onto/into the catcher....But if I make the trampoline thingy how will it fall into it. How do I not miss my target when I throw it into it?
Yikes..that //is// really tricky. I'm stumped. Maybe someone else could find a solution?
Exactly lol!!! Gahhhhh thank you though @MeganW
@dan815
I wanna cryyyy gahhhh
With Balsa Wood and Popsicle sticks form a collapsible structure that both catches, slows, and collapses while absorbing the kinetic energy of the egg. Hopefully it will slow the eggs's descent over the short distance of the structure sufficiently to catch without breaking the egg
@Zoso Balsa Wood???
My group will be using this small plastic cup
If not then we will use balloons make a trampoline...but I get your point as well, but the thing that's bothering me is how do I NOT miss my aim from 17 ft off the ground? I will be throwing the egg into a box/bowl/egg catcher and have to make sure the egg doesn't break, do I make the mouth bigger? and the body smaller???
perhaps a boiled egg falling in a corn syrup/honey cup would be harder to splash,but i dunno it will still not break if you cant boil it.also,about your aim thing,if you drop the egg from above all you gotta do is to make sure the egg is on the center of the catcher
That's the issue! I can't boil the egg and yea I was thinking about dropping the egg into a liquid substance or something like that.
just a thought but if you were allowed the use of some kind of parachute, or at least tail or something to keep the egg aligned vertically, you might be able to increase the odds the egg lands in the same was as it falls out of a hen. see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9OnroH8kP8
just put a thick layer of penut butter all around it and land it on a pillow
My teacher said no parachute or peanut butter.
