OpenStudy (bookworm14):

Could someone please walk me through how to do this? It is Trigonometry, Sin/Cos/Tan .... Thanks! The size of a TV screen is given by the length of its diagonal. The screen aspect ratio is the ratio of its width to its height. The screen aspect ratio of a plasma television screen is 16 : 9. To the nearest tenth of an inch, what is the height of a 50 inch plasma television screen with this ratio?

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

\[\frac{ w }{h }=\frac{ 16 }{ 9 }\],\[\frac{ 50 }{ x }=\frac{ 16 }{ 9 }\]

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

are you sure? I ask because 50 is the diagonal not the width itself (at least not that I know of )

\[\tan(\theta)=\frac{9}{16}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sin(\theta)=\frac{h}{50}\\ h=50\sin(\theta)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need \[\sin(\theta)\] which you find via pythagoras |dw:1449670214088:dw|
