construct a function using a real word problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DariusX @Ephemera @Hero Sorry to bother you all, but do any of you know how to do this? I'm trying to learn how because I have to do a phone call with my teacher.

I know how it's done just don't know any real world examples :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Ephemera Could you explain how? Thanks anyways. (:

OpenStudy (hennawho):

You get paid a flat fee of $5 for babysitting. Each hour you babysit, you get $2. y=2x+5

Well constructing a function would give you such a large window that there really is no need for an explanation if you know some algebra. You could have a linear function or quadratic. Linear example ------------- y=x or y=3x+2 Quadratic ex ------------- y=x^2 or y=4x^2 + 7

All they're asking is to create one using a real world scenario, like @hennawho did
