Construct an argument for or against the following statement: Religion is more influential in shaping a culture or society than government.

i would not say that one size fits all. if you look though out history, it is a pendulum. when one side pushes really hard society as a whole goes the other way. we see it in the dark ages where religion was prime and was the law. all science and everything stopped. then society went the other way a little then was moderate then was it went all the way to enlightenment which put reason and science first but made religion take a back seat. then it went the other way to the Renaissance where emotion and god ruled maybe not as bad as dark ages but never the less the pendulum continues to swing. i would not say one is more influence then the other because they both come into favor with society and then fall back out with the passage of time
