Suggestion: OpenStudy Chess section
ALREADY SUGGESTED BY ME
XDD
EVERYONE SAID THAT IT IS A BAD IDEA
IT WAS 5 MONTHS AGO
And?
Were you shot down?
YEAH
Maybe it was because they thought it wouldn't really be used that much and would just become a dead subject. :P
OS has a large chess community...
I KNOW
Ay, just a theory :P
but they said that it is a studying site
Chess is a relatively academic pursuit.
well,
Owlcoffee is here for rebuttal.
We have a music section... -.-
yeah bassicly
hey we can ask jay for it !
he will make it for us
We have a LaTeX section... -.-
but it will be hard
^
I doubt he'd be willing to devote enough time to that.. :(
Uhm, I s'pose we have a music section cuz people do take music lessons/courses. They might want feedback on something musical they did or help on some music questions.
people aslo take courses for chess
they might need help xD
That I did not know.
I just had a chess class 30 minutes ago XD
omg lol
That's why I'm making this post.
i can asnwer your questions :)
i will be your main helper ahahhaa
And we could make awesome titles too lol
yeah
World Champion
Actually, I don't really mind this being a section, I do concern myself the consistency of the proposition, and this not being for personal satisfaction.
Chess Expert
"Checkmater"
lol
well it would not be for playing it will be for questions
lol
Nevertheless, I honestly think Chess would be an active and relatively large subject.
In fact, I have a chess workbook with tactic lessons, and sometimes I struggle, and I can't find anyone to help me.
@Jaynator495 can you make a chess section ? lol
I doubt he has enough time. :(
I mean this is education and chess is a game :/
Music could be interpreted as non-educational, yet we have a section for that... -.-
Depends on how you define education.
Uhm, then why do I have a course for Music? XD
music is not education
Can you explain how this will benefit OpenStudy?
Well i took a music class for a little and all we did was describe the types of music etc
Academia is the milieu of an institute that creates and excercises knowledge, music is indeed a section of academia. Chess on the other hand is a board game.
Well I s'pose Music is kinda educational cuz if you wanted to be say a piano player, you'd have to learn how to read notes and such. :P
@pooja195 I already did. I honestly think Chess would be an active and relatively large subject. It could bring people who need help with chess to OpenStudy, because I definitely have some friends in my chess league who need help.
how is music benefit to os?
Well its a board game bug :/ it will only teach you to move your pond up
Education, in my opinion, is preparing for a skill later in life.
bud*
The thing is this site is meant for homework help @AlexandervonHumboldt2 music allows users to show/project their talent. People post music questions too :)
There are definitely people who aspire to be world famous chess players.
people can post chess questions too
Its like if we have a basketball section then, it will teach you communication but still not really educational.
Another section that can be debated is Computer Science.
Once again this site is for hw help. And HELP only. Playing games is not educational.
I have chess homework, pooja.
I wouldn't implement this onto the site it would distract users and keep them from helping users who need help.
Computer science is a great subject where users can share code and learn. CS is needed for users like me who want a better understand of the ever so changing technology around us @malcolmmcswain
By the way, I have studied music and it is quite well grounded when it comes to theory.
I am not doubting that all of these are great subjects.
The fact that people use it to post draft of lyrics and useless questions is another matter.
There are actual courses for Computer Science. My older brother is a techy and he took that in I think High school, he's in College now for Network security I believe. So I'd understand why they would have a subject for that, in case people had some questions about it.
I have courses for chess. So do a lot of people.
That's new. What class is it for?
Course for chess, like an actual class?
Have you guys never heard of a chess class? I literally just came from one about 30 minutes ago. -.- We study tactics, and how to become a better player, and we receive homework.
Well no because chess is more of an activity then a class tbh
We even have a chess textbook, full of problems such as: How do you checkmate in two moves from this position. Which piece is pinned? So on and so forth.
I have never heard of an actual chess class. My school has a chess CLUB never heard of an actual class. Now sure how you can have chess hw ;p
Tips can be given in the chats :P
I do have homework. Chess CLASS, not clubs are actually quite popular where I live.
Interesting.
Yes, its probably a chess club or outside school thing but not in-side school thing @malcolmmcswain why would a school waste money on a activity class instead of something beneficial.
@jagr2713 chess is not a waste of money lol im just saying its not needed on this site
Same here, i play chess to but i mean in school system like an actual class
^ yes agreed
I am not lying when I say the following: I used to go to a chess class after school when I went to a BRICK AND MORTAR school.
An actual private school in the school system.
Some people actually choose a chess-related profession.
I go to a public school BRICK AND MORTAR school. We have a chess club but not a class.
Well your school is different, not all schooling systems are the same
Pooja
Answer me this
I think having a Chess section on Openstudy is a great idea.
If having chess is so useless, How is LaTeX any better? How does it benefit the site? How is it educational?
We have a LaTeX section...
It's clearly for fun. I mean, it has a smiley face right next to it...
