Simply say the sentence out loud and you can tell how flawed it is.
It speaks like someone spent their whole life using autocorrect and autocorrect got taken from them and they don't know how to speak now.

If the sentence HAS to flow specifically like this, you are better off saying it this way:
"I admired the large painting while I waited in the hotel lobby"
